Ahead of General Studies examination starting on Monday, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union has urged students to report cases of transport extortion.
This directive was contained in a broadcast obtained by IndyPress on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
According to the broadcast, the Union advised students to channel their complaints to three designated student leaders, whose mobile numbers were provided.
The Union also cautioned students against paying inflated transport fares.
“The official fare from UI Gate to DLCUI is just #300. No more, no less,” the broadcast reads.
“Don’t let anyone overcharge you. Know your fare, protect your pocket. If you’re asked to pay more, report immediately to: Kilanko – 08167253189, Bobby – 09035473528, Seun JP – 08108243799,” it added.
In an interview with IndyPress, Kilanko Timileyin Joshua, the Transport Chairman, said the union aims to “curb extortion and ensure fair and standardized pricing for all students.”
“In light of the upcoming GES examinations and the transportation needs of our students, the Transportation Committee has released an official fare guideline indicating that the transport fare to the designated exam location is ₦300,” Mr. Kilanko said.
“The purpose of this announcement is to curb extortion and ensure fair and standardized pricing for all students. We are committed to protecting students’ welfare and urge all to report any instances of overcharging. The Committee will continue to monitor the situation and ensure smooth, affordable, and safe movement for all students,” he added.
