“Be Open to Learning, Think Critically, Develop Effective Communication Skills”- UI Professor Tells Students

‎The Faculty of The Social Sciences, University of Ibadan, facilitated a conference today, November 3, 2025, at the faculty Large Lecture Theatre.

The conference, themed “Reimagining Possibilities for the Social Science Students” was part of The Social Sciences Students’ Association Week program.

The event, which featured a panel session, saw panelists urging the student participants to explore beyond what they are being taught in the classroom.

During the panel session, Professor Remi Aiyede, a lecturer from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of the Social Sciences, encouraged students to be open to learning, think critically and cultivate effective communication skills.

He said, “You must be flexible and be open to learning. Never limit yourself to only what you learn in the classroom. You must be able to think critically and communicate effectively.”

‎Speaking also at the conference, Dr. Olajide Taiwo, charged students to discover themselves, describing it as the only way through which they can gain ground

“Nobody can be like anybody. Be yourself by discovering yourself,” he said.
