Ayokunle Peter, a 500-level student of Civil Engineering and resident of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, slapped fellow student resident, Bodunde Blessing, after the latter announced a goal from a Sofascore application before it appeared on the hall’s television screen, eyewitnesses explained.

The incident, according to the student residents who spoke to IndyPress on Thursday, November 13, 2025, occurred at the hall’s Junior Common Room (JCR) while watching the streamed football game between Nigeria and  Gabon.

How it Happened

On November 13, 2025, student residents within the hall had gathered in the Junior Common Room to watch the international match between Nigeria and Gabon.

According to eyewitnesses, the match was still at 1–1  on the hall’s TV when Blessing excitedly shouted “goal,” having seen an update from Sofascore  app on his phone.

His action drew a warning from Ayokunle Peter, also known as Scott-P, who told him not to repeat such action, citing that it “spoiled the fun” for others.

However, when the Super Eagles scored again to make the match 3–1 in their favour, Blessing repeated similar action, resulting in a reprimand from Ayokunle Peter before a slap.

An eyewitness further confirmed to IndyPress that the Administrator General of Indy Hall, Peculiar Adedeji, sided with Scott-P, going as far as sending Blessing and several other residents out of the inner section of the Junior Common Room.

He said, “We were watching Nigeria’s match, and there was someone using the livescoreapp. Livescore app updates the score before it appears on TV, so anyone using the app sees goals a few seconds earlier.”

“At that time, Nigeria was in extra time and the score was 1–1. When Nigeria scored the second goal to make it 2–1, the victim saw it on the appscore and shouted “Goal!” before it appeared on the TV. Scott P and another guy told him he shouldn’t do that because it was spoiling the fun for everyone.

“When the third goal came, he did the same thing again. This time, Scott P pushed him. The victim told him to go and sit down, and Scott P slapped him. Even though we were shouting “Goal,” we still heard the sound of the slap.

“After the slap, the victim wanted to retaliate, but the A.G. (Adedejii Peculiar) and some others held him down. They were telling Scott P to keep beating him while he was being restrained. That was when everything scattered and everyone turned against the A.G. and Scott P. That was what caused the commotion.

“Afterward, Scott P and the A.G. stayed inside the Junior Common Room (JCR) and chased everyone out, including the guy that was slapped. The victim said he would take up the matter if there was no apology. Scott P then said that if the victim wanted an apology, he should come and meet him inside the JCR,” he added.

In an interview with IndyPress, Blessing Abodunde, the student resident that was slapped by Ayokunle Peter, said, “We were watching the match, and I checked the Sofascore app and saw that Nigeria had scored, so I shouted a goal. Tifase warned me, and Scout-P came too, asking why I did it. I told him to go and sit down.”

“He said he could send me out of the JCR. I asked how he could send me out when he is not the owner of the JCR and the next thing, he slapped me,” he added.

Blessing added that he and several other residents were later sent out of the JCR by the Administrator General of the Hall, Peculiar Adedeji, leaving only the “Elders” (final-year student residents of the hall) behind.

“It was ridiculous. A hallmate slapped me in a space that is meant for everybody,” he lamented.

Relentless efforts to obtain comments from the Administrator General, Peculiar Adedeji, regarding the development, were unsuccessful as of press time.

We Have Settled the Matter”- Scott-P

When contacted by IndyPress,  Ayokunle Peter (Scott-P) described the altercation as a minor misunderstanding and said the matter had already been resolved.

“It was a little misunderstanding. We have settled it among ourselves. I have apologized to him,” he told IndyPress.
