The University of Ibadan Students’ Union Electoral Commission has officially lifted the ban placed on electoral activities. The lift of the ban was announced in a statement released by the Publicity Committee of the Students’ Union Electoral Committee on Monday, 13th September, 2021.

“The Students Union Electoral Commission, sequel to its inauguration on the 8th of September and in accordance with Article 17 of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Constitution, hereby declares the ban on electoral activities lifted,” the statement read.

The statement further revealed that interested candidates can now obtain forms for various executive and SRC positions at the student affairs division of the institution.

Recall that in June, the Students’ Union President, Akeju Olusegun, in a letter written to the Dean of Students, Prof. A. Abiona, asked the University Management to discharge his administration. Akeju assumed office on December 17, 2019, two years after the suspension of the Students’ Union by the erstwhile Vice-Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka, following students’ demand for the issuance of the school ID cards.
