In a bid to increase the safety of students and other members of the University of Ibadan community, speed breakers have been installed at the Main and second gates of the institution.
The installation of the speed breakers began on the evening of Friday, 11th March 2020.
Indy Press gathered that the project was financed through a partnership between the state government and a private body. Reacting to the development, the President of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, Adewole Yinka, described the installation of the speed breakers as an important step towards increasing the safety of students.
“When they started it, I couldn’t hide my happiness because if you check the number of accidents on this route, you’ll understand it is a much-needed project,” Mascot, as the President is widely known, told Indy Press on the night of Saturday, 12th March 2022.
He added that “with the introduction of speed breakers, accidents will reduce, overspeeding would automatically decrease, and this will result in increased safety for UI students.”
Indy Press recalls that at a security meeting held at the Eleyele Command of the State Police Command, the Union had called for the installation of speed breakers at the institution’s gates for safety reasons.
