The University of Ibadan Student announced via a press release on the 30th of July that they had met with the school management to deliberate on the proposed school fees increment, among others, for both returning students and freshers.
Some University of Ibadan Students’ Leaders led by the President of the Union, Samuel Samson Tobiloba (HOST), met with the representative team of the School management led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof Kayode Adebowale on Friday, 28th 2023.
The meeting became necessary after the increment to fees in other tertiary institutions like UNIJOS and UNILAG.
The UI management notified the students’ team of the plan to increase the school fees, accommodation and studio/practical fees for fresh and returning students. They blamed this on the dwindling subvention from the Federal Government, among others, as the cause.
In the meeting, the school management announced the proposed fee for returning students. Still, they declined to disclose those for the fresh students, accommodation and others, stating that the university senate is yet to approve the proposed fees.
However, the Students’ Union leaders requested clarity on the proposed increments for all student categories with details including all fees.
The meeting ended with a resolution for further consultations as they failed to reach a conclusion.
