The University of Ibadan Students’ Union organized a personality lecture in honour of Barrister Beulah Adeoye at the International Conference Center (ICC) on the 7th of March 2024 as part of the celebration of the Union’s week, which started on March 2, 2024.
The lecture, titled “Exploring Personal Growth Outside the Classroom,” was scheduled to start at 11am but began at 11:41am with the arrival of the distinguished guest of honor. In attendance was the Royal Father of the day, His Royal Majesty, Oba Yekeen Ademola Abioye the Eleyinpo of Ipapo Land, the Keynote speaker; Barrister Beulah Adeoye, and the three panelists: Barrister Bimbo Ojenike, Mr. Adesola Ogundiran, and Professor Oyedunni Arulogun, the director of the Centre of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) at the University of Ibadan.
The program started with the recitation of the anthem. Following the anthem was the welcome address by the Students’ Union Vice President, Miss Nafisat Adebusola Ogunsesan. She stated the focus of the personality lecture, saying, “This week is borne out of the need to impact knowledge and contribute to the well-being of students.” She also encouraged students to pay attention and take notes, saying, “As we begin, I enjoin you to focus and learn from the wisdom of people who have passed through what you are currently experiencing and are here to share their experiences and give you practical ways to achieve in life.”
The keynote speaker, Barrister Beulah Adeoye, in his address, discussed various aspects of his life, sharing his experiences and how he overcame challenges. He said, “If the objective is to serve God and humanity, and the process is defined, the goal clear, and action pursued and met, I make bold to say that whenever there is a problem around you, it is an indicator of an opportunity to create champions.” He added, “Human history is full of examples of people who solve problems. Those who became celebrated, famous, and also attracted resources.”
Explaining how he overcame his challenges without the needed resources, he said, “Champions are not made in the ring; they are made in the crucible of afflictions from daily routines showing up many times when they feel less able to get up and go.”
Encouraging the students, Barrister Beulah Adeoye told students to note plans that they want to pursue to completion, encouraging them to engage with leadership. Towards ending his address, he added, “Success is not a destination; it is a journey here in life and a journey that is still being told in the life after.”
