The Electoral Commission of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union has on Monday, March 11th, 2024, lifted the ban placed on all electoral-related activities in the current academic session.
The Commission made this announcement in the late hours of Monday evening through its publicity committee.
Announcing the lift of ban, the Commission through a release signed by its Publicity Chairman, Lawal Teslim Opeyemi, has called on aspiring candidates for both the Students’ Executive Council and Students’ Representative Council positions to begin peaceful campaigns, devoid of violence.
“The Electoral Commission of the University of Ibadan officially announces the lift of ban on all election-related activities. We emphasize the importance of maintaining a peaceful electoral atmosphere, and we encourage all candidates and electorates to abstain from any form of violence during the electioneering process” the release reads.
Also, prospective candidates have been advised to obtain nomination forms from Room 22 at the Students’ Affairs Division.
The campaign period, according to the Electoral Commission, will last from 10pm on Monday, 11th of March 2024 to Friday, 19th of April, 2024.
The commission, in the exercise of the powers granted to it by the Students’ Union constitution, has a duty to draw up electoral guidelines, as well as other relevant rules and regulations.
