Newly admitted residents of the Great Independence Hall of Residence have on Saturday, July 20, 2024, been formally welcomed into the hall.
The welcome event which was organized by the students’ leadership of the hall was held at the Great Independence Hall Cafeteria.
Speaking at the event, the Hall Warden of the hall, Dr. Adejumobi enlightened fresh residents on various matters such as security consciousness, academics,, moral character, among others.
The Hall Warden warned fresh residents in the hall against accomodating strangers in the hall, and rather encouraged them to spend their time judiciously.
Dr. Adejumobi urged the new residents to take leadership position or responsibilities, as well as possess good character, while balancing all with ‘the primary assignment’.
The Hall Warden further cautioned attendees at the orientation against addiction to hard drugs and cultism.
“You are not here on campus to pursue only academics. You must also be grounded in moral character,” the hall warden said.
“Make sure you also take leadership position. It may not fetch you financial gain, but you are going to get the benefit of experience such as knowing how to write a letter,” Dr. Adejumobi added.
Also, speaking on a topic tagged “Leadership skills and career pathway: A freshman guide to success” Barrister Ojo Adebayo, a former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Oyo State urged students to prioritize their education and should not engage in frivolities.
Barrister Adejumobi also cautioned residents of the hall against indulging in cultism, while encouraging them to be careful with the opposite gender.
