Students of the University of Ibadan have on Thursday, 25th July, 2024, demanded a general meeting of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union.
A copy of the letter obtained by IndyPress, titled “A Call For Congress”, was addressed to the President, University of Ibadan Students’ Union, with copies of the letter also sent to the Students’ Representative Council, Council of Faculty Presidents, Council of Hall Chairpersons and the Union of Campus Journalists, UI.
“As a follow-up to the mass action that occured on Tuesday, 16th of July, 2024 and Wednesday, 17th of July, 2024, we, students of the University of Ibadan consider it imperative that a congress of students be called on Saturday, 27th of July, 2024,” the letter reads.
“This, being to review the dividends of the last mass action and to chart way forward, especially with regards to fee hike, among other demands. We look forward to hearing from you, soonest,” the letter added.
The letter signed by two hundred and seventy-five students is following a mass action held on Tuesday, 16th July and Wednesday 17th July, 2024.
Students at the University of Ibadan in recent time are demanding a reversal of inflated fees, adequate supply of electricity, non-discriminatory accommodation fee, end to victimization of three student protesters, independence of the Students’ Union from managerial interference, and cancellation of duplicated fees.
