A gathering of student leaders, on Sunday, 24th of November, 2024, was convened by the Students’ Union leadership to discuss revolving issues around unregulated prices on campus.

The meeting, held at the SRC Chamber was attended by the Students’ Union Executives, some Faculty Presidents, Hall Chairpersons, among others.

The meeting was called to suggest likely solution to the issue of extortion of the students’ community by on-campus vendors.

Specific issues like bank charges, high cost of goods, food poisoning, unbecoming attitude of some vendors towards students, were some of the concerns deliberated upon.

Also, the issue of some intra-campus transport commuters who overcharge students was also raised.

Ultimately, it was resolved at the meeting that a unified pricelist will be pasted across Faculties and Halls of Residence for vendors to comply with.

It was also resolved that the monitoring committee of the Students’ Union, as well as that of each Hall of Residence will be activated towards inspecting vendors and ensuring that regulations are complied with.

“There is going to be hotline which will help in getting feedback from students in case there is any form of extortion,” Elemide said.

It was also resolved that cafeterias will be made to use the same spoon as a measure for the food sold out, with Hall Chairpersons meeting their respective Hall Wardens to inform them about the Union’s resolution.
