Members of the Great Independence Hall of Residence Press Organization, shortly referred to as IndyPress, have been admonished to dedicate themselves to the practice of campus journalism.
This advice was given by former IndyPress Editor-in-chief, Mr. Olusegun Olopade, who visited IndyPress Secretariat, situated at C-Block axis of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, on Tuesday 17th December 2024,
Mr. Olusegun Olopade, fondly called ‘ProfthePoet‘, was the former Editor-in-chief of the organization, during the 2017/2018 academic session.
Speaking, Mr. Olopade encouraged IndyPress members to uphold the standards of the organization. He urged members to be steadfast and committed, while noting that dedication to IndyPress pays in the end.
Mr. Olopade emphasized the benefits of being an IndyPress member in the long-run, while citing instances where being a part of the IndyPress family had paid off for him.
“It will come as a reward one day. I have two passions, arts and science. Joining the Press has paid me more, than what I read in school. You are in for a very big deal. So whatever department you are in, it is not a waste,” Mr. Olopade charged.
“Joining IndyPress is the best that can happen to you. The development from here is the strongest that will keep you going in life,” the former Editor-in-chief noted.
Also, Mr. Olopade recounted how IndyPress under his leadership started providing a live report of happenings at Jaw War, among other endeavours which his leadership embarked upon.
Appreciating Mr. Olopade, the immediate past Editor-in-chief of the organization, Kelvin Omachonu thanked ‘Prof’ for the solid groundwork he laid for the organization. Kelvin restated the need for current members of the organization to be consistent and resilient with their duties, noting that being a member of the organization can be very rewarding.
The current Editor-in-chief, Aduwo Ayodele, described the visit of the past Editor-in-chief, Mr. Olopade as a cherished one.
“We appreciate your act of heeding our call despite your tight schedule. Thank you for setting the pace and a standard that has kept the organization going. This visit I believe will spur many of its kind. For an organization like ours which clocked forty this year, the need for stronger alumni relationship cannot be overemphasized,” Aduwo remarked.
The incumbent Editor-in-chief, Aduwo Ayodele called for a more formidable alumni relationship in a bid to bridge the gap that may exist between the long-gone members of the organization and her broad alumni network.
