The Peculiar Adedeji-led Indy Hall Executive Council, being the student leadership of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, has been accused of financial irregularities and several administrative discrepancies, IndyPress reports.
A four-page document, undersigned by some concerned students in the hall, has raised several allegations against Team Altruism.
The allegations include the mismanagement of a sum of 12.9 million naira donation from Indy Hall Alumni for the renovation of the hall’s football pitch, nicknamed San Siro; lack of accountability for 300,000 donation by internet personality Asherkine to the Great Independence Hall; unclear handling of the hall’s DSTV subscription, among others.
How it Began
Contrary to what is often described as “tradition” and the expectations of the hall’s residents, the Executive Council, led by Peculiar Adedeji as Administrator General, is yet to commence the Indy Hall Week events, the distribution of the Indy Hall packages, and the Elders’ Party.
A petition shared across the hall WhatsApp platforms, on Saturday, December 27, indicted the Peculiar Adedeji-led administration further, highlighting cases such as an alleged mismanagement of a ₦12.9 million donation from Indy Hall alumni meant for the renovation of the hall’s San Siro pitch, mishandling of the hall’s decoder subscription, and insufficient accountability for the hall’s internally generated revenue, among other discrepancies.
“We, concerned members of Independence Hall (Katangites), University of Ibadan, respectfully submit this petition to the appropriate authorities to draw attention to a series of serious concerns arising from the conduct and administration of the current Independence Hall leadership under Mr. Adeniji Peculiar Gbolahan, Hall Chairperson (Administrator-General), together with other members of the Executive and Legislative arms of the hall,” the public petition stated.
“These concerns border on alleged financial mismanagement, lack of transparency, negligence in the discharge of duties, and actions that have adversely affected student welfare, safety, and the integrity of hall governance. This petition is submitted in good faith, in the collective interest of accountability, transparency, and the preservation of the long-standing legacy of Independence Hall,” it added.
Details of the Multiple Allegations: Alleged ₦12.9 million San Siro Scandal
The undersigned students, in a four-page petition, alleged that a sum of ₦12.9 million which was donated to the hall for the renovation of the hall pitch, San Siro, was not judiciously utilised by the hall’s leadership.
“Despite the substantial donation which was reportedly received in two different batches, ₦10.4 million into the hall account of which ₦5.2 million was transferred to the engineer and the other ₦5.2 million was withdrawn to the Administrator-General account,” the petition stated.
“The remaining sum of ₦2.5 million was allegedly sent directly to the Administrator-General. The pitch remains substandard, structurally unsafe, and not commissioned.”
It added, “More alarming is the fact that several hall members have reportedly sustained injuries while using the pitch, due to its excessively hard and uneven surface, water-logging, fallen poles, collapsed shades, and exposed fittings. This raises grave concerns bordering on reckless endangerment of student welfare in addition to possible financial mismanagement.”
Unaccounted ₦300,000 Goodwill Donation to Independence Hall
It was further alleged in the petition that a sum of ₦300,000, donated by Asherkine as a goodwill contribution to Independence Hall during his visitation, has not been properly accounted for.
According to the petitioners, the sum was not deposited into the official Independence Hall account, and no financial breakdown or explanation has been presented to hall members, raising serious concerns regarding transparency and custodianship of hall funds.
The petitioners also decried Team Altruism’s failure to disburse the annual hall package to Katangites, despite having paid for the package since the inception of the concluding academic session.
“Under established hall tradition, Katangites are entitled to receive an annual welfare package. However, numerous hall members report that this package was neither distributed nor formally accounted for during the current administration, without any official communication explaining its absence,” the petition read.
“Hall members who paid for official Independence Hall hoodies have not received the items to date. Furthermore, the sample hoodie presented is of noticeably low quality, inconsistent with what was promised and paid for. This raises concerns regarding procurement processes, value for money, and possible misapplication of funds,” the petition added.
Other concerns and allegations raised included the unclear handling of the hall’s DSTV subscription, persistent water scarcity, lack of transparency for generated revenue from the hall’s Junior Common Room, failure to organize the customary Elders’ Party, alleged financial discrepancy over the cost of the hall’ art located at its entrance, and the alleged misappropriation of the high quality jersey donated by Indy Hall Alumni, described as missing in the renovated Junior Common Room.
“Concerns have also been raised regarding the DSTv subscription intended to last for the full academic session. The service reportedly ended prematurely, and no transparent explanation or financial report has been provided to clarify how the subscription funds were utilized.”
The petitioners noted, “Since the assumption of office by the current administration, Independence Hall has experienced persistent and severe water shortages, compelling students to fetch water from distant locations such as SLB Quarters and Jaja Clinic. This marks a sharp decline from previous administrations and constitutes a serious welfare and public-health concern.”
“The Junior Common Room was renovated by alumni for the benefit of Katangites, to serve as a communal recreational and social space. However, concerns have been raised about the lack of transparency in the revenue generated from the use of the renovated JCR, with no clear financial reports made available to hall members,” it stated.
“It is further alleged that the Elders’ Party has not been organized to date. There has been no publicity, planning, or official communication regarding this event. This prolonged silence has raised concerns that funds may have been collected for the event without execution or proper accountability.”
“It is alleged that financial discrepancies exist in the execution of the Hall Wall Art project beside the entrance gate. Hall members were reportedly informed and agreed that the project cost was ₦55,000. However, it was later reported by the Hall Chairperson that ₦85,000 was expended on the same project. This unexplained variance of ₦30,000, without supporting receipts or documentation, raises serious concerns regarding financial accuracy, reporting integrity, and transparency,” the petition read.
“It is alleged that original imported football jerseys, including Liverpool FC and Al-Nassr jerseys, provided by alumni for the aesthetic enhancement of the renovated Junior Common Room, are no longer in their designated location.”
“There are concerns that these jerseys, meant to serve as permanent decorative items for communal benefit, are allegedly being personally worn by the Hall Chairperson (Administrator-General). If established, this would constitute a serious breach of trust and misuse of hall property,” the petition stated.
Deeper Revelations From the Hall’s Elders WhatsApp Group
In addition to the four-page document detailing several allegations against Team Altruism, some final-year student residents of the hall have also queried the Administrator-General, Peculiar Adedeji, over the delay in the commencement of the 2025 Indy Hall Week, the non-payment of his hostel accommodation, the failure to organize the Elders’ Party, and the alleged disappearance of football jerseys from the hall’s Junior Common Room.
The finalists, popularly referred to as Elders, raised certain concerns on the hall’s Elders’ WhatsApp group in the early hours of Saturday, December 27, 2025, calling the Administrator General to accountability.
The public call to accountability, as observed by IndyPress, began on the Elders’ WhatsApp group as early as 8:00AM, lasting until exactly 3:28 PM in the afternoon.
Responding to the complaints, the Administrator General of Indy Hall, Peculiar Adedeji, acknowledged and attributed the delayed Hall Week event to what he described as “incompetence on his part.”
He further shared a graphic outlining the failed schedule for the Hall Week event.
He wrote, “First of, we plan to have a grand Hall week… Due to some incompetency from my part things didn’t go according to plans. But it was still delay not that we didn’t plan to have a Hall week event at all. We started with LnD last weekend thinking that we will follow suit through the week with subsequent events. I am very sorry. The whole thing is shifting from Monday till Wednesday.”

His explanation, however, was met with heavy criticism from some of the finalists, who argued that planning to hold the Hall Week event during the festive period (Xmas) was ill-timed, as many students had already travelled home.
Reacting, a resident wrote, “This your English dex vex me.”
Another finalist added, “You wan do hall week for Christmas??”

A further response read, “You are a devil with angelic voice. You and your EXCOs will come and explain to all Katangites how you spent every dime. Na why E dey do dey escape…but this time Your cup is full, you all that are involved in this mess.”
As the Administrator General continued to apologise, another Elder responded, “Please don’t tell us you’re sorry. What’s the better solution eje? You can’t hold any party if you’re going to be fr cos no one will turn up. It’s so pointless.”
Unpaid Accommodation levy by the Administrator General
Further allegations were raised regarding the Administrator General’s accommodation status.
A student, who is part of the leadership of Indy Hall Elders’ Council, claimed that Indy Hall Warden, Dr Adejumobi, had disclosed that Peculiar Adedeji had not paid his hostel accommodation fee and had also failed to provide hall shirts allegedly paid for by over 300 residents.
“The Warden said the AG hadn’t paid his accommodation and that he hadn’t provided the clothes that was paid for more than 300 katangites. As you can see this was beyond the Elders’ Council at this point,” he alleged.

Responding to the claim, Peculiar explained, “In my defense, from the first semester I told the Hall warden of my Nelfund application and that I am waiting for refund from the school. Being a final year student, I can’t graduate and be expecting a refund from the school so it’s better they pay me and I convert it to accomodations fee which he agreed to.”

On the issue of hall shirts, he said, “Concerning shirt, we made a design since July or June and trend it showing Katangites what we are planning to do as Hall shirt, at the junction of production we had a town hall meeting and people were satisfied with the sample and we went on to continue printing until we had a congress and there were counter opinions.”
“This dragged for months before I went to meet Hall warden to intervene and this also took almost a month about roughly a month ago we were giving clearance on the shirt and production has resumed back. They have been printing and the first batch was brought last Friday or Saturday.”
He further added, “And when I was reached out to concerning the withdrawal I said it that reach out to the finance and SOS they will help with the process.Nothing was said to me about it again till the speaker reached out to me and I said they haven’t given us any official request to withdraw that’s why I have not notify the house.I didn’t delay elder council withdraw please.”
In response, the particular Elder countered his claims, stating, “This is an outright lie because there’s no way you’ll tell me this and we won’t have worked on it, we don’t do complacency here. Within 3 days warden told us to inform SOS to write a letter on our behalf, because we had to bypass the ag because he had issues with the warden and that was delaying our withdrawal, that was friday, it was done that friday, given to finance, salvador & obinelo were also present, by monday Dr Esan had signed and financed has processed the withdrawal.”
“In another pov, why would you send us to the sos, it doesn’t make any sense, the ag is supposed to write a letter on our behalf but he couldn’t because he was running from the warden,” he added.
Other Elders also expressed dissatisfaction. One wrote, “Guy, do you read what you are writing? Because school dey owe you you didn’t pay accomadation, the one thing that make you legal occupant??? Wait what’s the speaker doing while all these is happening i don’t understand.”
Another added, “The first part isn’t really an excuse for not paying for accommodation. A friend of mine also has issues with nelfund and he crowdfunded and we all assisted.”
“Which kain eye other halls go Dey look us when they hear say our AG attended all hall events but couldn’t host one In addition; he didn’t even pay his accommodation fee. Omo una just Dey stain person white,” he further stated.
Amid the growing tension, an Elder called for an emergency meeting involving the Indy Hall Executive Council, Team Altruism.
He wrote, “My fellow Elders… Especially the elders EXCOs, your presence is needed in this emergency meeting.”
A claim also surfaced in the group that the Administrator General was seen putting on the jerseys inventory meant to be at the Indy Hall Junior Common Room.
He noted, “@Peculiar I have a question. From popular observations, it was discovered that some of the missing high quality jerseys inventory from the JCR holdings were spotted on your body. In short you were wearing the inventory of the hall. How true is that AG?”

Responding, the Administrator General claimed, “Until recently, I have no idea that Liverpool or any other jersey were missing. It’s quite unfortunate that I happen to have a Liverpool jersey around that period.”

IndyPress reached out to the Administrator-General, Peculiar Adedeji, regarding the multiple allegations raised against him, but he did not respond to the inquiry.
Previously, it will be recalled that the Administrator was earlier suspended by Indy Hall Legislative Council for seven days over confirmed irregularities and abuse of power.
