The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Ibadan, has inducted 88 graduates into the pharmacy profession, marking the University’s first set of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) graduates.
The inductees, popularly referred to as THE ASIWAJU ’88, were formally admitted into the profession at an induction and oath-taking ceremony held at the Alumni Hall, UI on Tuesday, March 3,2026.

The ceremony, themed “The Evolving Pharmacist: From B.Pharm to Pharm.D,” marks the Faculty’s first induction following its compliance with the directive of the National Universities Commission (NUC), which extended the duration of the pharmacy programme from five to six years.
With the implementation of the revised curriculum, graduates of the programme will now bear the professional title of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D).
The 2024/2025 graduating set recorded notable academic success, with 46 of the 88 graduates earning academic distinction.
Delivering the induction lecture, Olufunsho Awodele, FPCPharm, FAMedS, urged the new pharmacists to embrace the challenges of the next phase of their professional careers with diligence and ethical responsibility.
He added that the oath they had taken demands adherence to the highest professional standards, warning that any form of misconduct would attract appropriate sanctions.
“Pharmacy training goes beyond earning a professional title. Pharmacists play a critical role in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system and contributing to national economic growth,” Awodele noted.
Also present at the ceremony were Professor Olumuyiwa Omobowale, who represented the UI Vice-Chancellor; Titilayo O. Fakeye, immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed; and other distinguished guests.
