The Great Independence of Residence, University of Ibadan, has laid artificial turf on its nearly  renovated Maracana field.

The turf installation, as observed by IndyPress, took place  on Monday, September 29, 2025, and was carried out by some student residents within the hall.

In an interview with IndyPress, the Administrator General of the hall, Adedeji Peculiar, appreciated those who he said were  instrumental to the Maracana renovation project.

“I would like to give appreciation to God Almighty for giving us the opportunity to start the project which we are about to complete. Moving on, I would also like to appreciate my predecessors, people who laid a foundation  of what we are enjoying today. Especially the then Administrator General Ibrahim Olaniyan popularly known as Bam Connect, who made the proposal which I inherited, and the  Team Altruism that followed the band,”  Peculiar said.

Adedeji Peculiar further appreciated the alumni of the hall, hall management, the hall’s Legislative and Executive Councils for their support in bringing the project close to completion.

“The day for the commission will be announced very soon, but prior to that, we are planning to hold friendly matches on October 1, 2025, in the morning. This is to appreciate and celebrate the hall anniversary, before the day of commissioning is announced. There will be friendly matches among the elders, returning students, the hall’s executives and Legislative Council and the  returning students.  And we also appreciate the IndyPress for its activeness, because they pulled us, made us stand on our feet, and kept us on our toes,” he added.
