Oyo Police Dismiss Reports of Cult Clash in Agbowo

By IndyPress News Desk

The Oyo State Police Command has refuted claims that the security incident which occurred around the Agbowo area on Sunday evening was cult-related.

The clarification was made by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr Ayanlade  while speaking with IndyPress on Monday, May 18, 2026.

According to the police spokesperson, residents should refrain from spreading unverified information capable of creating panic within the community.

“Please, let us avoid spreading falsehood and creating unnecessary tension within the community. The incident that occurred last night was never a cult-related crisis, but rather an affray, possibly assault, which should have been reported as such,” he said.

He further noted that false alarms could lead to the unnecessary deployment of limited security resources.

“Making exaggerated claims unnecessarily leads to the deployment and misuse of limited security resources. Overstretching the system through false alarms when there is no real threat may eventually result in delayed or ineffective response when genuine emergencies arise, as subsequent reports could also be treated as false alarms,” he added.
