Students of the University of Ibadan on Friday, 20th of September, 2024 have maintained that the ongoing protest will not end until the University management and the Federal Government addresses their concerns.
Expressing displeasure towards the effect of the fee Increment, the students said the development has reduced them to beggars, putting them at the risk of dropping out.
As of the time of this report, students are gathered at Car Park, UI Maingate with placards conveying inscriptions like “Students loan policy will only created generational debt to the working-class populace; peaceful protest is not a crime; end the victim of UI3” among other statements.
The students maintained that education is not a commodity but a social service and the government should not avert its responsibility of funding education.
“Education is not pepper, ducation is not garri, education is not alubosa. Education is a social service,” Aduwo Ayodele, one of the student said.
“Students are doing hookups and alms begging just to raise fees. See what the government and the management have turned us to,” the students added.
