On Sunday, October 12, 2025, IndyPress reported the disciplinary sanction imposed on the Administrator General of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, Peculiar Adedeji, for abuse of power and disregard for the Indy Hall Legislative Council.
Subsequent to the publication, an insider reached out to IndyPress, providing a complete version of the Disciplinary Committee’s report, which appeared to contradict the version earlier obtained from a member of the Council.
IndyPress had earlier reached out to the Clerk of the Legislative Council, Matthew Ugochukwu, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, to request the Disciplinary Committee’s report. However, he failed to provide the report, citing that his phone had been wiped.
“Sadly sir. My phone had to be wiped yesterday. I don’t have any file on my device. However, I suggest you reach out to members of the committee alongside their secretary and the chairman. They should have the report,” Matthew Ugochukwu said.
According to the full Disciplinary Committee’s report provided by the insider, additional revelations surfaced regarding financial allegations levelled against the Administrator General of the hall, Peculiar Adedeji.
According to the full report, Adedeji Peculiar was alleged of creating a separate, unauthorized account and mismanaging Junior Common Room (JCR) revenue.
“The Administrator General failed to remit funds generated through the Junior Common Room (JCR) into the official Hall account. This act constitutes financial misconduct, abuse of entrusted office, and a betrayal of the confidence reposed in him by the Hall. The deliberate withholding of JCR funds reflects intentional mismanagement and misappropriation of collective resources,” the report stated.
“In a most shocking and unacceptable move, the Administrator General opened a separate account for sponsorship funds received for the Hall’s Independence celebrations without the knowledge, acceptance, or approval of the Legislative Council.
This act is not only unconstitutional but also a direct attempt to perpetrate embezzlement and shield funds from proper oversight and auditing.By this singular action, the Administrator General violated the core principles of transparency, accountability, and financial integrity upon which the Hall is governed,” it added.
Based on the report, the Disciplinary Committee recommended a three-day suspension of the Administrator General pending further investigations.
“As a disciplinary measure, the Administrator General is recommended to be suspended from office for a period of three (3) days, effective immediately. That the Council be duly informed that should the auditing process reveal further discrepancies or continued misconduct, Adedeji Gbolahan (Peculiar) shall be disgracefully impeached and removed from office without hesitation,” it added
Confirming the allegation, the Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee, Abdulhakeem Abdurrahman, told IndyPress that the case is still under review by the Council.
“Though the AG (Peculiar Adedeji) said Katangites are the ones using the JCR, and because the JCR is majorly meant for them, claiming he doesn’t charge them, he has however not been found innocent or guilty of the offence of misappropriation of the JCR fund, but the allegation is still under investigation,” Honorable Abdurrahman, the Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee told IndyPress.
In an interview with IndyPress, the Chairman of Disciplinary Committee, Sanusi Kareem, also confirmed the allegation, stating that it is under investigation.
When asked by IndyPress about the case, the Administrator General of Indy Hall, Peculiar Adedeji, denied the allegation
“We didn’t create any account. During the audit, the list of how the money was spent will be given to the House,” Peculiar Adedeji told IndyPress.
Relentless efforts by IndyPress to reach the Speaker of the Indy Hall Legislative Council, Hon. Gbadebo David, to further confirm the allegation case were unsuccessful as of the time of filling this report.
It is worth noting that IndyPress observed the financial allegations were not addressed during the Council’s third ordinary sitting held on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Additionally, the Council’s Chief Whip, Sanusi Kareem, who is the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, during the Council’s sitting, refused to provide IndyPress with a copy of the Disciplinary Committee’s report, raising concerns about public transparency.
According to the Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee, Abdulhakeem Abdurrahman, the allegation is currently under investigation.
