The Students’ Union, University of Ibadan, on Monday, 21st of October, 2024, empathized with the student community over the erratic state of power supply, which newly started on Saturday, 19th of October, 2024.
In a press release co-signed by Elemide Daniel, the Students’ Union House Secretary, and Omotayo Olamide, the Public Relations Officers, the Union traced the cause of the faulty electricity to the collapse of the national grid that took place on Saturday, 19th of October, 2024, while noting that they have reached out to the management.
The Students’ Union explained that concerted effort to restore electricity on Saturday, 19th of October, 2024 ended in futility as the underground mode of transmission of electricity on campus was untraceable.
“In response to the ongoing challenges, we have reached out to the school management expressing displeasure over the epileptic power supply on campus,” the memo reads.
“On Saturday, the 19th of October, the national power grid collapsed causing a power outage everywhere, including the University,” the memo added .
The Union further stated that the school management has reached out to external experts who will be working to restore electricity to the University.
“The school management has reached out to external experts who are currently working to restore power to the University. We hope a lasting solution is found as soon as possible and power is restored to all halls soonest,” the memo concluded.
