The President of the Faculty of the Social Sciences Students’ Association (FATSSSA), Peter Adegoke, has been impeached by the Faculty House of Representatives (FHR), while four other executive members were suspended for two weeks.
This was disclosed in a memorandum co-signed by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oduola Peter Ayotomiwa, and the Clerk, Hon. Ogungbe Oluwaferanmi, on Friday, May 15, 2026.
“It is hereby formally communicated that the FATSSSA House of Representatives, acting in accordance with its constitutional powers and after due consideration of established procedures, has passed a resolution for the impeachment of the President, Adegoke Peter, from office,” the statement read.
According to the House, the decision was reached during the legislative sitting held on May 15, 2026, following a review of allegations and findings presented before the House.
The statement further noted that the impeachment process was conducted in line with constitutional procedures and that the required majority vote was attained in support of the motion.
According to a report by FATSSSA Press, the development stemmed from a series of altercations between the Faculty House of Representatives and the Executive Council. Issues raised during deliberations included alleged insubordination by members of the Executive Council, restricted access of students to the Secretariat, and the use of the Secretariat by other departments within the faculty.
It was also reported that some members of the Executive Council failed to comply with fines imposed for alleged neglect of duty. This was linked to the President’s response when questioned by the Chief Whip of the House on why sanctioned executive members had yet to make payments.
During the sitting, the President reportedly stated that his freedom of speech was being infringed upon. Alongside the Vice President, Triumph Israel, he alleged that the Executive Council was being disrespected by the House and claimed that the House had consistently failed to demonstrate fairness in its decisions concerning the council.
However, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Peter Oduola, responded by outlining the constitutional duties of the Speaker and explaining the procedures guiding debates within the House.
The President reportedly rejected the position of the House and walked out of the sitting alongside other executive members. While leaving, he allegedly declared that the Executive Council would no longer attend sittings until they were accorded due respect.
Following the resolution of the House, the Speaker stated that only the Assistant General Secretary, General Secretary, and Public Relations Officer would retain access to the Secretariat, while various inaugurated committees would oversee responsibilities previously handled by the suspended executive members.
Consequently, Vice President, Adeleye Triumph; Financial Secretary, Matthew Itodo; Social Director, Adeoye Fiferanmi and Sports Director, Obinna Kingsley were suspended from office with immediate effect for a period of two weeks.
