UI Partners OPay for Decade-long Scholarship Project

The University of Ibadan and OPay, a prominent Nigerian financial services company, have formalized a partnership through consenting to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Through its recent partnership, OPay will offer ₦300,000 scholarships to 20 top students annually, promoting academic excellence and leadership development.

At the University of Ibadan, OPay and the University officials, were joined by students who will benefit from the inaugural outing of the scholarship program.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, OPay has committed to a 10-year educational investment of ₦1.2B.

Annually, ₦120M will be allocated to sponsor 400 students across select institutions.

The University of Ibadan Vice-chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale appreciated the financial firm for initiating the give-back idea.

“On behalf of the University of Ibadan, I extend our heartfelt appreciation to OPay for recognizing and rewarding the exceptional talents of our students. This award not only celebrates the achievements of these 20 undergraduate students but also reflects OPay’s commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders. Your support underscores the value of investing in education and inspiring excellence, and we are deeply grateful for this impactful partnership,” the University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale said.

Adedotun Adekunle, Chief Technology Officer at OPay noted that the initiative will help keep students dedicated to their studies.

“OPay is honored to enter a long-term partnership with the University of Ibadan to support Nigeria’s future leaders over the next 10 years. By providing sustained financial support, we aim to help these students dedicate themselves to their studies and achieve their full potential,” Mr. Adedotun said.
