The Great Independence Hall (GIH), University of Ibadan, Defence Team is set to launch the GIH Safe Hall Initiative alongside the official inauguration of Hall Marshals.

This was disclosed in a broadcast shared across Independence Hall platforms and jointly signed by the Hall Public Relations Officer, Sodiq Hammed, and the Defence Commissioner, George Aramide Samuel.

The programme, themed “Promoting Safety, Responsibility, and Order in Great Independence Hall, UI,” is scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 9, 2026, by 11 AM at the Great Independence Hall Junior Common Room.

Speaking with IndyPress, the Defence Commissioner, George Aramide, described the initiative as an avenue to officially inaugurate members of the Hall Defence Team.

“The initiative is also centered on the official inauguration of the Hall Marshals, aimed at strengthening coordination, safety awareness, and effective response within the hall community,” he said.

He added that the programme is designed to promote collaboration, responsibility, and awareness towards creating a safer and more organised hall environment for residents.

According to the organisers, the event will feature individuals whose roles contribute directly to maintaining safety, order, administration, and student welfare within Great Independence Hall.

Expected guests include the Hall Chairman, Obinelo Chisom Raphael; former Campus Defenders Chairman, Owonifaari Oreoluwa; the Indy Hall Warden, Dr. Kunle Odedokun; alongside other invited personalities involved in campus and hall security administration.
