UI Confers Honorary Degree on Four

Four Nigerians have been honoured by the University of Ibadan with the conferment of honorary degrees on them.

The conferment was made at the 76th Foundation Day Anniversary of the University in Ibadan.

The decoration was done by the Chancellor, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto.

The four honoured distinguished personalities were Chief Mojisola Olusola Ladipo; Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi; Emeritus Professor Olufemi Bamiro; and Mr Victor Etuokwu.

Chief (Mrs) Mojisola Olusola Ladipo and Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi were conferred with the Honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (D. Litt Honoris Causa); while both Emeritus Professor Olufemi A. Bamiro and Mr Victor Etuokwu were conferred with the Honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc. Honoris Causa).

Mr. Victor Etuokwu, a former Deputy Managing Director of Access Bank, while responding on behalf of all the honourees, expressed great delight that the prestigious University of Ibadan in all ramifications, found them worthy to be honoured.

He congratulated fellow honourees on the remarkable achievements and expressed gratitude to families, friends, mentors, and partners who have supported, encouraged, and guided them on their success journey.

Mr. Etuokwu said the recognition was not an acknowledgement of personal achievement but a testament to the highest consent of notable individuals who have contributed to the advancement of society.

He stated that the awardees received the honour with a sense of responsibility to continue pushing the boundaries of peace and progress and inspire future generations of Nigeria.

Mr Etuokwu encouraged all the 2024 graduands of the University to be resilient and adaptable in order to re-invent themselves and hold fast to integrity and character.

He advised the graduands to recognise the hand of the almighty God, be proud ambassadors of the University of Ibadan, and remember to give back to their alma mater.

The ceremony was witnessed by political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, public officials, leaders of business and government, as well as families and friends of the honourees.
