TLDS UI Commences Jaw War 2024, Announces Preliminary Round Winners

The Literary and Debating Society, University of Ibadan, on Tuesday, 26th November, 2024, commenced its annual debate contest known as ‘Jaw War’.

This edition, tagged “Jaw War: Rise of Legends” started with preliminary rounds for halls of residences, which saw ten different halls of residence paired against each other.

The event had Alexander Brown Hall in a face off with Obafemi Awolowo Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall against Kenneth Mellanby Hall, Queen Idia Hall against Kenneth Mellanby Hall, Great Independence Hall against Lord Tedder Hall and Queen Elizabeth 2 Hall against Sultan Bello Hall.

Each team had two speakers who spoke for 5 and 3 minutes respectively.

In the end, Obafemi Awolowo Hall defeated Alexander Brown Hall by (71.6% to 66%); Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall defeated Ransome Kuti Hall (67.3% to 65.1%); Queen Idia Hall defeated Kenneth Mellanby Hall (76.1% to 61.6%); Great Independence Hall defeated Lord Tedder Hall (72.5% to 72.25%) and Queen Elizabeth 2 Hall defeated Sultan Bello Hall (66.8% to 66.6%).

Amoo Oluwabukunmi, who spoke for Queen Idia hall was adjudged the best speaker for the night.
