UI Donates Motorised Borehole to Abadina Grammar School

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of the University of Ibadan, Professor Peter Olapegba, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, has opened for use, a motorised borehole in Abadina Grammar School, UI, for the provision of drinking water for the consumption of students, staff and the community at large.

Professor Olapegba said the construction of the borehole came out of the compassion of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale to ensure that the students of the school were secured and protected from dangers that could arise from the search for potable water.

The motorised borehole, according to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, was a corporate social responsibility of the University of Ibadan towards the advancement of teaching in one of the public primary and secondary schools situated within the University and service to humanity.

He affirmed that the University of Ibadan will always focus on promoting the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure development within the institution.

Professor Olapegba, therefore, called on the Ministry of Education to provide necessary infrastructure for the public primary and secondary schools situated within the University campus to complement the corporate social responsibility of the University.

He also charged the staff and students of the school to manage the borehole judiciously and assured that the University would always give timely intervention and continuous support towards the attainment of academic excellence.

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Oyo State, Professor Salihu A. Adelabu was represented by the Local Inspector of Education, Ibadan North, Mr Kayode Okesade, who appreciated and commended the University management for the donation of the motorised borehole to the school.

He affirmed that the Oyo State government would not relent in its efforts to develop the education systemand assured that the provision of more of such infrastructures to enhance service delivery of the staff and welfare of the students will continue.

The Principal of Abadina Grammar School, Dr. Grace O. Afolabi appreciated the kind gesture of the Vice-Chancellor and the University management for the donation of the motorised borehole.

She also thanked Alhaja Akinlabi Folashade for the renovation of the school library.

She commended the Vice-Chancellor for the speedy completion of the borehole project, saying that the borehole project and the reconstructed library were testaments to the school’s commitment to providing quality education and improving the overall well-being of the students.

Dr. Afolabi stated that access to clean water and a well-equipped library are essential components of a supportive learning environment, and the school was proud to have made significant strides in these areas.

She disclosed that the school had faced a lot of challenges from being without a perimeter fence, and she therefore sought support for the fence project.

The Registrar of the University of Ibadan, Mr. Ganiyu Oke Saliu, the Chairman of the School Governing Board, Dr. Abayomi Olaifa, the PTA Chairman, Mr. Raheem Fatai, other dignitaries, teachers, parents, and students were present at the opening of the motorised borehole.

The ceremony also featured cultural dances and appreciation messages from staff and students of Abadina Grammar School to the University of Ibadan.
