Katangite Wins UI’SU VC Marathon

David Adediran, a 500 level student from the Great Independence Hall came out victorious in the VC Marathon race held on Saturday, 14th December 2024.

The VC Marathon which is part of the UI’SU Olympics saw the runners cover a total of 7.62km.

The route for the race was from the Senate Building to Abadina Junction, where the racers navigated left, through the Faculty of Veterinary and then to the Faculty of Law. Afterwards to the VC’s Lodge, through Awba Dam, to Awo Stadium junction, St Anne’s, Queens Hall, then to Tedder and finally to the finishing line situated at the Students’ Union building.

The Great Independence Hall of Residence which was part of the Green House team came first with a time stamp of 28:57.

David Adediran in a chat with IndyPress explained that his victory during the marathon spurred an amazing feeling.

‘It is an amazing feeling; getting the reward of months of training. Long distance running is something I picked up in my second year in school. I just loved the way it tests a person’s willpower, determination, and perseverance. They are positive attributes that bring productivity in whatever you’re doing. Running is just one way of showing it,” David told IndyPress.

Coming second and third was Eje Elijah from Green House and Olanrewaju Elijah from Red house with time stamps of 29:15 and 29:17 respectively.

Awo Hall, part of the Yellow House also came first in the female marathon race.
