ALERT: UI Student Declared Missing 

 

Okey Uchenna Williamspaul, a 400-level student of the Department of Archeology and Anthropology, University of Ibadan, has been declared missing, IndyPress reports.

According to a broadcast  widely circulated  on October 22, 2025, Okey Uchenna was last seen on October 6, 2025, at Sultan Bello Hall cafeteria.

“The public is hereby urged to assist in locating Okey Uchenna Williamspaul, a 400 level student* of the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Ibadan, who has been declared missing,” the broadcast reads.

“Efforts to reach him since his disappearance have been unsuccessful, and there is growing concern for his safety and well-being.Anyone with useful information regarding his whereabouts is strongly urged to contact any of the following numbers immediately:📞 +234 901 209 9383, +234 814 458 2473, +234 707 198 4253, +234 705 465 1819, +234 701 511 2826,” it added.

When contacted by IndyPress, the response of Oyo State Police Command to the  development could not be ascertained as of press time.

Relentless efforts by IndyPress to obtain comments from the University of Ibadan Dean of Students, Professor Ademola Lewis, Students’ Union President, Covenant Odedele, and Vice-President, Owadayo Olabisi, regarding the development were unsuccessful as of press time.

Despite not giving response, IndyPress observed that the University of Students’ Union Vice- President, Owadayo Olabisi, posted the circulated broadcast raising alarm about the missing character on her WhatsApp status at exactly 12:59 PM.

The case of students being declared missing has become rampant in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Recently, a student in Obafemi Awolowo University was declared missing and is yet to be found reportedly, raising concerns about the safety of students in the country’s tertiary institutions.
