UI Psychology Students Hold Mental Health Campaign Rally

Four students of the University of Ibadan, Samuel Akinwade, Oluwadarasimi Otunla, Rabiu Aisha and Folarin Olawale, in collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Psychology Students,  UI, held a mental health campaign rally on November 12, 2025.

The rally, under the initiative of “ The Mindspace Project”, was held across major locations within the University with the students sensitizing the student community on mental health.

In an interview with IndyPress, Samuel Akinwade, the President of NAPS and the co-founder of the mental health campaign project, the Mindspace Project, explained the reason behind the campaign.

Akinwade Samuel stated that the project was intended to sensitize the student community on the importance of prioritizing their mental health and also to apply what they are being taught in class.

“We are Psychology students and we learn a lot in class about mental health. So, we don’t want our knowledge to just end in class. What we have  been taught in class, we want to take it round the University of Ibadan and show the world that we are the  guardians of mental health community,” Akinwade Samuel told IndyPress.

‘Mental conversation is not something we can have enough. Students face anxiety and depression. It is one thing that is often overlooked and that is why we are creating the awareness,” he added.
