On Day 7 of the ongoing NUGA 2025 Games, the UI Contingent continued to exhibit stellar performances in judo and athletics, even as the chess events came to a temporary halt and the male football team suffered a setback.
In the judo events, the UI team maintained its dominance, securing top-three finishes across multiple categories. Adding to their earlier seven-medal haul in the individual events, the judokas captured three additional medals, bringing their total to ten in the competition so far.
Mathew Deborah Chinenye also clinched a gold medal in her individual event, while Bello Olajide earned bronze. In the team judo shiai, UI secured silver, solidifying their position as one of the top-performing schools in the category.
With 2 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze medals, the UI judo team now boasts one of the university’s best-ever showings at NUGA.
On the track, Ibrahim Oladele added another gold to UI’s medal count after an impressive win in the men’s triple jump. The men’s 4x100m relay team also remains in contention, having qualified for the final set to take place on Day 8.
In swimming, UI athletes added two medals to their tally. Alimi Olanrewaju took silver in the men’s 50m freestyle, while Balogun Aishat earned bronze in the women’s 50m freestyle event.

However, it was not all victories for the UI Contingent. The UI Pioneers, representing the university in male football category, bowed out of the tournament after a 1–2 loss to the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) in the quarterfinals.
Despite the mixed outcomes, the University of Ibadan Contingent continues to display resilience, teamwork, and competitive spirit across all categories of the ongoing tournament.
