The Great Independence Hall of residence, University of Ibadan, commissioned its newly renovated C-Block Reading Room on Friday, November 21, 2025.
Present at commissioning event were Chief Tony Attah, CEO of Renaissance Africa Energy and an alumnus of Indy Hall, management of the hall, student residents and the hall’s alumni.
Speaking, Chief Tony Attah described the renovated reading room as “their sleeping room, and their last minute room where they locked up for reading.”
“In this particular reading room, I remember, there are some of my members here; the last minute dot com students, after all the Idia Hall and Queens Hall matters, you will see that it is three weeks to the exam, everyone of us would just carry our pillows and move here. Actually, it was a sleeping room,” Chief Tony Attah said.
He further pledged to continue to contribute to the development of the hall, encouraging his colleagues to prioritize the same gesture.
The renovated reading room, located t at the C-Block, was commissioned at exactly 4:30PM.
After the commissioning, the Hall Warden, Dr. A.O. Adejumobi, presented an award of recognition to Chief Tony, decorating him as the Great Independence Hall Ambassador of the year.
“On behalf of the Elder’s Council and the recognition of your contributions to this hall, we want to appreciate you so much and want to give you this award of recognition as a token of our appreciation. Also, I want to decorate you as our ambassador for this year,” Dr. Adejumobi said.
In response to the award and decoration, the Chief Tony Attah appreciated the Hall Warden, hall management and the student residents of the hall.
“My speech will centre around if you can dream it, you can make it happen, it is possible; I also started like you. It is a great pleasure to be back here after thirty five years. Thirty five years ago, I looked like you, thirty five years later, you will look like me,” Chief Tony Attah encouraged.
