The Great Independence Hall of residence, University of Ibadan, held a Congress on Monday, December 1, 2025.

The Congress, held at the hall’s quadrangle, saw the nomination of three Katangites to  join the existing members of the Katanga Republic Independent Electoral Commission (KRIEC) for the upcoming hall’s election.

IndyPress observed that three out of seven residents that were nominated by the Congress to form the KRIEC were voted as stipulated in the hall’s Constitution.

The nominated characters include Oyekunle Marvellous, a 300-level student of the Faculty of Dentistry, Giwa-Balogun Demilade, a 200-level student of Quantity Surveying department, Faculty Environmental Design, and Olufemi Inioluwa Olufunmi (Pope), a 400-level student of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts.
