The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are set to hold the official signing ceremony for the agreement reached by both parties on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
This was disclosed in a memorandum dated January 5, 2026, addressed to all Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of federal universities, issued by Mrs. R. G. Ilyasu, Director of University Education, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education.
“I am directed to invite you to the official ceremony for the signing of the Agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),” the memo stated.
According to the memo, the ceremony will take place at the Conference Hall of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), No. 6 Zambesi Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, by 11:00 AM.
The memorandum emphasized the significance of the event to the education sector, describing it as a major milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s university education.
“The event signifies a critical milestone in promoting industrial harmony, enhancing teaching and learning conditions in Nigerian Universities, and reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to the sustainable development of the education sector, in furtherance of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” it added.
All invited university stakeholders were mandated to attend the ceremony.
Recall that the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, had earlier disclosed the development during a Channels Television Retrospect programme late last year.
