The University of Ibadan has retained its position as Nigeria’s highest-ranked university in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026.
According to the newly released rankings, UI was placed within the 801–1000th ranking position globally, ahead of other Nigerian universities featured on the list.

Other Nigerian institutions ranked within the 801- 1500th ranking position include the University of Lagos, Bayero University, Kano, Covenant University, Landmark University, Ahmadu Bello University, Federal University of Technology, Minna, University of Ilorin, University of Jos, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
The Times Higher Education World University Ranking in partnership with Elsevier is trusted world-wide by students, academics, governments, and industry experts as a global benchmark for assessing university performance.
In the 2026 edition, a total of 2,191 universities from 115 countries and territories were assessed.
Institutions were evaluated across key performance indicators, including teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
