The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Ibadan, Professor Juwon T. Arotiba, has stressed that health is a critical factor in performance, productivity, and institutional success.
Professor Arotiba made this assertion during a workshop organised by the University Health Service for commercial food vendors and handlers operating within the University of Ibadan.
He explained that subjecting food vendors to rigorous health checks, structured training, and professional development strengthens the University’s culture of excellence.
“By subjecting vendors to rigorous health checks, structured training and professional development, the culture of excellence in the institution is enhanced,” he said.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor noted that the University of Ibadan recognises that the well-being of its staff and students is closely linked to the quality of food and services provided on campus.
He emphasised that food vendors and handlers occupy a critical position in the chain of well-being, noting that their practices directly influence individual health outcomes as well as the collective reputation of the University as a safe and nurturing environment for learning and research.
Professor Arotiba encouraged the vendors to view the workshop as an opportunity to strengthen their professional identity and equip themselves to contribute meaningfully to the health and safety of the University community.
