The Legislative Council of the Great Independence Hall has ordered individuals and organisations responsible for pasting posters and flyers on hall infrastructure to remove them on or before 11:59 PM, Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

This was disclosed in a three-page document co-signed by the Speaker of the Council, Rt. Hon. Abdulmatin A. Gbadegesin, and the Clerk, Hon. Ibrahim O. Bello, on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

According to the statement, the Council raised concerns over the increasing defacement of hall property through the indiscriminate placement of posters in prohibited areas.

“The Great Independence Hall Legislative Council hereby brings to the attention of members of the University community and the general public the increasing practice of pasting posters and flyers in prohibited areas within, on, or around the hall premises, resulting in the defacing of hall property and infrastructure,” the statement reads.

The memo also referenced the constitutional provisions prohibiting such acts.

It cited Article 10, Section II, Subsections 3–9 of the Great Independence Hall Constitution, which outline regulations governing the placement of posters and protection of hall property.

“In light of the above provisions, all individuals, groups, and organisations responsible for posters placed in unauthorised areas are hereby given forty-eight (48) hours from the release of this notice to remove them and comply with the constitutional provisions.”

The council further warned that failure to comply with the directive within the stipulated timeframe would attract sanctions.

“Failure to comply within the stipulated time shall attract the appropriate sanctions provided under the Great Independence Hall Constitution (2025), including fines and other disciplinary measures,” it added.
