ASUU Issues FG Four-day Ultimatum to Implement New Salary Structure

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a four-day final notice to the Federal Government to immediately implement the newly approved salary structure for university lecturers across the country.

This was disclosed on Thursday, March 26, 2026 by the President of ASUU, Professor Christopher Piwuna while he was delivering a speech at a public lecture held at Sa’adu Zungur University, Yuli Campus, in Bauchi State.

He stated that the ultimatum became effective from the day it was disclosed which was on Thursday.

According to him, this agreement on the new salary structure had long been reached as far back as December last year and should have long been implemented since January this year. So he urges the Federal Government to be swift in their actions.

“We have issued a four-day ultimatum from today to the Federal Government to begin the payment of the newly approved salary structure. Failure to comply will attract a strong response from the union,” ASUU President, Professor Piwuna said.

Recall that in January 2026, the Federal government officially signed the ASUU and FG renegotiation agreement. The agreement includes a 40 percent increase in the salaries of academic staff which has since then, is yet to be implemented.
