A group of students carrying buckets gathered at the Tekena Tamuno Building in a show of protest over the ongoing electricity and water shortages on campus, IndyPress reports.
Findings indicate that the demonstration which occurrence around 11am involved students from some halls of residence, particularly those in the Ring 5 axis which included Independence Hall and Nnamdi Azikiwe hall of residence.
As earlier reported, those hostels have been affected by persistent power outages amid the ongoing SSANU/NASU strike.
The students expressed frustration over the worsening situation, citing the combined impact of electricity failure, water scarcity, and stalled repair efforts.

Speaking with IndyPress, a student resident of Indy Hall who preferred anonymity said the protest was driven by the prolonged outages and their effect on daily academic life.
“There is light on some parts of campus, but not in hostels like Zik, Bello, and Indy. It has affected students’ ability to attend classes because there’s no water and no electricity to charge devices or access class updates,” he said.

He added that the protest was largely spontaneous and not pre-planned.
“I don’t think it was planned days before. It just happened between yesterday and today after the light went off again.”
According to him, efforts to reach maintenance officials were unsuccessful due to the ongoing strike.
“They told us they wouldn’t be able to work because of the strike,” he added.
IndyPress observed that members of the Independence Hall Executive Council were present at the scene.
Also spotted were the Dean of Students, Professor Demola Lewis; the Students’ Union House Secretary, Tifase Oluwatimilehin; and the Students’ Union President, Temidayo Deboye.
As of the time of filing this report, discussions were ongoing between Dean of Students, Concerned stakeholders and student representatives who were present the protest site.
More details are expected as the situation develops.
