The Great Independence Hall Academic Team, under the supervision of the Secretary of State (SOS), Najimdeen Robiu Ayomide, has launched a physical library initiative where student residents can borrow learning materials.
The initiative was announced through a broadcast message signed by the Indy Hall Public Relations Officer, Sodiq Hammed, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Speaking with IndyPress, the Indy Hall Secretary of State, Robiu Ayomide, described the Katanga Library Initiative as an academic support system aimed at providing learning materials to residents who prefer physical copies to digital materials.
“The primary objective of this library initiative is to support Katangites academically by providing access to learning materials, especially for residents who may not have access to their gadgets at certain times or those who prefer studying with hardcopy materials rather than soft copies,” he said.
“Overall, the initiative is aimed at promoting effective learning and offering academic assistance to all Katangites,” he added.
According to him, the library currently contains only books and is strictly for Katangites, that is, student residents of the hall. The library is located at the Secretariat in Block C.
Speaking on how residents can access the books, he explained that the only requirement for borrowing books is being a resident of the hall, with no fee attached.
“The only membership requirement is being a Katangite. There is no fee attached to using the library,” he stated.
He also noted that the library does not operate with fixed opening or closing hours since its primary purpose is book lending.
According to him, interested residents who wish to borrow books can contact him or Jaiye, the Katanga Republic Academic Team Coordinator, through the numbers provided on the flier, after which they will be informed of a convenient time to visit the Secretariat and collect the books.
Robiu also noted that residents are to return the borrowed books within 24 hours, while individuals who would like to request a longer duration should visit the Secretariat for that.
He further disclosed that plans are already underway to expand the initiative.
“The library is planning to expand. Before the library was established, most of the books used were obtained through donations from Katangites. At the end of the semester, we plan to reach out to Katangites who have textbooks and other study materials they no longer need so they can donate them instead of throwing them away,” he said.
“This will help us add more books to the library, sustain the initiative, and also make it easier for future administrations to continue managing and expanding the library,” he added.
