The Literary and Debating Society of the University of Ibadan (TLDS) has, on the 31st of January, 2024, announced the postponement of the next rounds of the ongoing JawWar competitions.
In a circulating message on Whatsapp, addressed to the “senators”, the President of TLDS, Aweda Bolaji made known the decision. According to him, he “received calls from the highest authorities in the school” compelling him to postpone the event.
It was gathered from the circulating text that the society had earlier resisted any move forcing TLDS to not go on with the earlier proposed calendar, according to which the Faculty round, as well as the second leg of the Hall rounds, were slated for the 1st and 2nd February, 2024 respectively.
However, in the light of this development, TLDS, according to the message, has reached the decision to hold the scheduled Faculty category (first leg) on Friday, the 2nd of February, 2024 while the second leg of the Hall category will take place on Saturday, 3rd of February, 2024, as stated in the message sent by Mr Aweda Bolaji. Additionally, he stated, in that message that an official release is due to be released by The Literary and Debating Society, UI.
Speaking with Indy Press via a phone call, the President of TLDS, Aweda Bolaji, denied the sending of the message to the public. According to him, no information is certain until certain issues concerning logistics have been concluded and an official statement from TLDS is released.
