The death of the longest-serving and a former Vice Chancellor at the University of Ibadan, Professor Ayo Adebanjo has been confirmed on Friday, May 25th, 2024.
Professor Emeritus Ladipo Ayo Banjo demise was confirmed through a Facebook release made public by the University of Ibadan immediate past Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka.
The short release was titled, “Adieu Professor Ayo Adebanjo, 1934 – 2024”.
“I have just learned of the transition of Professor Emeritus Ladipo Ayo Banjo, the longest serving Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (1984 to 1991)” Professor Olayinka wrote.
“This is very sad news even at a ripe old age of 90 years. The end of a most glorious era” the release reads further.
Extending his condolence message to the late Professor Banjo’s family, Professor Olayinka remembered the deceased for his wise counsel.
“Heartfelt condolences to his entire family and to all of us his mentees and academic children. We valued your wise counsel at all times” Professor Olayinka noted.
“You were highly approachable. An icon. An eminent citizen of the world. The gift of UI to humanity. It hurts very deeply to start referring to you in the past tense.”
“Nonetheless, we thank God for your life of selfless service and worthwhile legacies” the release concluded.
