The Students’ Representative Council, University of Ibadan, under the headship of Rt. Hon. Opegbemi Matthias, on 30th July, 2024, has set a three days ultimatum, which will lapse on Friday, 2nd August, 2024, before the Students’ Union President, Aweda Bolaji, following the protracted delay to call a Students’ Union congress, after acknowledging a receipt of over two hundred signatories of students, who had demanded the congress last week Thursday.

A copy of the UI’SRC letter addressed to the Students’ Union President, Aweda Bolaji, obtained by IndyPress on Wednesday, 31st July, 2024, noted that the Council “acknowledges that the signatures require verification” but should be verified before Friday, 2nd August, 2024.

“It has come to the attention of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Students’ Representative Council that a notice calling for Congress has been validated by the signatures of two hundred of two hundred and fifty (250) students of the University of Ibadan,” the letter reads.

“While we acknowledge that the signatures require verification, the Council hereby gives the President of the University of Students’ Union a three days ultimatum, which lapse on Friday, 2nd August, 2024, to convene the Congress upon verification of the signatures to avoid the breach of “Congress shall be summoned by the Chairman on the approval of the Council. The President, on the receipt of 250 signatories of the students, shall direct the General Secretary to summon the Congress” – Article XIII (2), University of Ibadan Students’ Union Constitution.

The letter to the Students’ Union President was written subsequent to a petition sent earlier on Tuesday evening by eight students who faulted the protracted delay in the call for a Congress.
