The University of Ibadan Executive Council Executive Council on Friday, 2nd August, 2024, wrote to the Students’ Representative Council stating reasons a Congress, recently requested for, will not hold until further.

A copy of the letter addressed to the Students’ Representative Council, obtained by IndyPress, was a response to the earlier query letter from the UI’SRC to the Executive Council on the delayed call for a Congress.

The release signed jointly by the Students’ Union President, Aweda Bolaji and the General Secretary, Ogundijo Japheth, noted that the Congress “at this point in time due to the resolution of the security meeting of the University”.

The letter, which did not disclose attendees at the said meeting, however noted that “the meeting decided against any sensitive gathering at this point in time due to the ongoing protests in the nation”.

“We assure you that we will call for Congress immediately after the unrest in the country has subsided” the letter to the UI’SRC concluded.

Recall that the UI’SRC had given the Student Union Executives a 3-days Ultimatum to call for a Congress, after it received a petition from eight students earlier in the week.
