“Student Engagement And Support Services Top Priorities” – UI VC Says

The University of Ibadan management Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale has called on newly appointed Provosts, Deans of Faculties, Directors, and Heads of Departments at the University to make student engagement and support services top priorities.

The admonition, given on Monday, August 12 2024, during a one-day orientation program for new heads of the University units, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to student success, while emphasizing that this commitment extends beyond academic excellence to include emotional and social development.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale reiterated “the importance of establishing mentorship programs, enhancing tutoring services, and creating inclusive extracurricular opportunities to enrich the student experience and ensure their academic and personal growth”.

The Registrar, Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, explained that the orientation program is held annually to reinforce the University’s culture and traditions among the participants, as well as to educate newly appointed officers on the expectations of their roles and guide them in performing their duties efficiently.

This year’s orientation program, themed “Maximizing Leadership Roles in University Administration,” featured a keynote address titled “Implementation of Public Procurement Act 2007, Relevant Sections of Finance Act 2020, for Effective Procurement” by Professor James Akanmu, Director of the University of Lagos Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental, and Social Standards Enhancement.
