Many students of the University of Ibadan have resorted to seeking financial assistance from the general public as Friday deadline for school fees payment approaches, IndyPress reports.
With fees deadline set for Friday, September 20th 2024, several students, to include a social club, Agronomy Club, have ignited public appeal in a bid to raise payable fees.
IndyPress, as of press time, observed that some students have used platforms like Whatsapp and X (formerly Twitter) as an alternative to raise fees.
In a post shared by a X user, @Phelumi, on 10th September 2024, an appeal made on behalf of a Uite noted that the student ‘might miss the last deadline’.
“A University of Ibadan student needs our help. Due to the recent increase in the tuition, she has been unable to meet the previous deadlines and it looks like she might miss the last deadline of 20 September,” the tweet reads.
“She’s managed to raise N170,000 and has N161,500 outstanding in order to complete her fees. Any amount will be appreciated. You could also dm for more proof. You could also retweet. Your #200, #500, #1000 would go a long way,” the tweet added.
Another user, Adesina David, on September 15, 2024, on behalf of another student is currently seeking donation worth thirty thousand naira to meet technology and utility sundry charges.
“Hello everyone. A friend is struggling to meet the school fee deadline set by UI. While a portion has been paid, we urgently need your help to cover the remaining balance. Without your support, sitting for the 1st semester exams might be impossible,” Adesina tweeted.
Adding to the outcry, @Nuamzy_001 has also pleaded to meet his grand fee worth one hundred and thirty five thousand, eight hundred and fifty naira (#135, 850).
“There’s just 5 days left and I’ve raised 50k🥹🥹. Pleaseeeeeee,” the tweet reads.
“A final year student of the university of ibadan needs help to complete their tuition. The deadline is in 6days. They’ve gathered about 80k. there’s 70K left. Pls come through with anything you can’t,” another different tweet shared on September 14th reads.
“A friend of mine needs help with the rest of her school fees in order to be able to meet up with the 20th September deadline and for her to be able to register her courses and sit for exams she has been able to pay part of it and needs 40,000 complete it. Please you contributions will go a long way,” yet another tweet reads.
The Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students, UI, (PANS) on Monday, September 16th 2024, published a tweet themed “Help UI Pharmacy Students Stay in School“.
“Help us raise the funds to pay part of 100 UI PHARMACY STUDENTS fees (average of #140,000 each) by donating an amount to the account,” the tweet reads.
“Please help us stay in school,” a student commented under the post.
Agronomy Club UI has also been forced to thread same in respect to similar difficulty faced by its members.
Despite the increasing outcry of UI students resulting from the outrageous fee increment, and subsequent to a shutdown of academic activities by the University management on Saturday, August 31st, the Students’ Union leadership led by Aweda Bolaji has maintained an overall decorum, IndyPress reports.
