The College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, issued a notice on Thursday, November 14, 2024, regarding the ongoing power challenges affecting Alexander Brown Hall and the University College Hospital (UCH).

The 20-day power outage, caused by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s (IBEDC) disconnection resulting owed electricity charges, has disrupted institutional activities, IndyPress can report.

In the notice signed by the Secretary of the College of Medicine, Mr. A.E. Odedele, two resolutions were put forward to address the lack of the power supply.

“Management will ensure the prompt pumping of water to fill all water storage tanks and guarantee sufficient distribution to all blocks in the hall,” the release reads.

“Management will provide a total of three hours of power supply comprising one hour in the morning and two hours in the evening,” the circular added.

The resolutions were reached following meetings with Alexander Brown Hall Executives and student representatives on November 11 and 12, 2024.

The College’s Secretary, emphasized that the University and College Management have been working tirelessly to resolve the crisis.

The efforts included negotiating with IBEDC to restore power and exploring sustainable energy solutions such as solar inverters to ensure long-term stability.

Students and staff have been assured of the institution’s dedication to maintaining a conducive environment for learning and research despite the challenges.
