“Some of the allegations can be confirmed to be true, while some have not been established,” – Indy Hall Speaker, Honorable Gbadebo David Says

The Speaker of the Great Independence Hall of Residence Legislative Council, Honorable Gbadebo David, has disclosed the stance of the 14th Assembly on the administrative discrepancies and several allegations levelled against the Peculiar Adedeji-led Indy Hall Executive Council.

The Speaker made the stance known in an interview with IndyPress on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

Recall that Team Altruism, the Indy Hall Executive Council led by Peculiar Adedeji as Administrator General, was recently accused of several irregularities, including the alleged mismanagement of funds meant for the renovation of the hall’s football pitch, San Siro; an unaccounted goodwill donation to the hall by Arsherkine; and a lack of transparency in the handling of internal revenue generated from the rentage of the hall’s Junior Common Room, among others.

Explaining why the Elders’ Party did not hold, Honorable Gbadebo David stated that it was because the Administrator General, Peculiar Adedeji, had not yet paid his accommodation fees.

“The Elders party and Hall week probably did not hold due to the fact that the AG has not paid his accommodation fee, which is why the warden refused to support the withdrawal of funds approved for hall week by the legislative council,” the Speaker noted.

Addressing the alleged mishandling of the hall decoder subscription, the Speaker explained that while the House ratified a budget of ₦1.7 million (from an initial ₦2 million proposal), the Hall Warden, Dr Adejumobi, only authorized the withdrawal of 1.2 million, impeding the intended full subscription for the concluding session.

“They didn’t pay the 9-month subscription because there were other things that needed attention too, and also because they claimed to be considering a strike, which is valid,” Honorable Gbadebo said.

“However, during the office Audit, all offices were checked and the only thing wanted is the Press subventon that the AG has not paid and the money for pole repair to make more people able to hang banners which generates revenue for the hall. They wanted to push for a supplementary budget but the legislative council did not allow that discussion as we felt it is not needed so far this session,” he added.

Regarding the alleged mismanagement of San Siro football pitch and JCR internal revenue, the Speaker stated, “The legislative council in accordance with the Elders Council spoke with the warden about it and the warden said he would be writing to the University Audit to bring them on board for the Maracana.”

“The money for JCR is not going to the Hall students’ account; instead, it goes into the Hall’s internally generated revenue account. We monitored to the extent that we prohibited Executives from helping these people pay to prevent allegations like they paid half money or didn’t pay,” he stated.

Speaking on the issue of non-remittance of a donation from internet personality Asherkine, the Speaker noted that the AG had previously been sanctioned for the misconduct, specifically a one-week suspension.

Although the donation, according to the Speaker, was used for Independence Day celebration, the failure to follow proper fiscal channels warranted the sanction.

“Also for the non remittance of the Asherkine donation to the hall account even though the money was used for the Independence Day party and celebration in which a report was presented to the house, the AG was still suspended for a week,” Hon. Gbadebo David stated.

On the other allegations such the missing high quality jerseys meant to be at the Junior Common Room, Hon. Gbadebo noted that the issue came up at the commencement of the second semester examinations, leaving the House in a tight spot to convene a sitting to address the concern.

“Other allegations about the JCR shirt and all are just being raised and noticed during exams which put the council in a tight spot to hold sittings,” he said.

Honorable Gbadebo David further told IndyPress that an online sitting will be convened to put into scrutiny the yet-to-be-disproven allegations.

“We plan to have a sitting after exams… It’s the festive period, it is so hard to form a quorum even if an online sitting is conveyed during exams… but there would surely be a notification,” Honorable Gbadebo noted.
