JUST IN: UI’SU Directs Freshers to Reapply for Accommodation

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU) has directed fresh students to reapply for hostel accommodation following errors detected in earlier submissions.

The directive was disclosed in a broadcast signed by the Deboye Temidayo-led Executive Council “Team Diligent” on Wednesday, February 26, 2026.

“All fresh students are required to reapply due to errors detected in earlier submissions. Previous applications are invalid,” the statement reads.

The union added that detailed guidelines for returning students would be released later in the evening.

Recall that the University of Ibadan recently commenced the online accommodation application process, with the Students’ Union earlier providing a timeline for the exercise. However, the process has faced technical challenges, with some portal updates yet to be completed.

Speaking with IndyPress, Students’ Union President Deboye Temidayo explained that the disruption occurred because a large number of staylite students attempted to apply as freshers.

“The portal didn’t recognise those staylite students because it was still showing them as fresh students,” Deboye said.

He further noted that some system upgrades could not be completed earlier because the University Senate had not yet approved students’ results.

“When the application process for freshers started, the Senate had not sat on the results. So even the final-year students who now identify as finalists were not regarded as such because the Senate had not approved their results,” he explained.

Deboye added that a new application window has now opened for freshers and staylite students to reapply, while also explaining the reason for the new update which was in contrast with the proposed accommodation schedule.

“Those schedules cannot be followed again because we are now working against time. Many days have already passed. We are trying to fast-track the process to meet the deadline,” he said.

According to him, the portal has been updated for fresh students, and returning students to reapply.
