UI SU Issues Management 48-Hour Ultimatum to Fix Electricity Crisis

By IndyPress News Desk

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the University management to address the recurring electricity issues affecting students on campus.

This ultimatum was disclosed in a memorandum co-signed by the Union President, Temidayo S. Adeboye, and the General Secretary, Joshua O. Shontan, on Sunday, April 25, 2026.

The demand, according to the Union, stems from growing frustration among students over persistent power outages.

“Following our recent consultations and deliberations with the University Management regarding the erratic power supply and electricity rationing, we must express the growing frustrations of the student body,” the memo reads.

The Union noted that while efforts have been made to engage the management through dialogue, urgent action is now required.

“We firmly urge the Management to address these electricity challenges within the next 48 hours. It is our hope that this window allows for a resolution that restores normalcy and maintains the academic standards our Premier University is known for,” the statement added.

Recall that in recent weeks, several halls of residence have experienced repeated blackouts at different intervals. Notably, the Great Independence Hall and other halls connected to the Ring Road 5 transformer have been significantly affected.
