UI Matriculates 4,330 Fresh Students for 2025/2026 Academic Session

The University of Ibadan on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, matriculated 4,330 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The matriculation ceremony, held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), UI, marked the formal admission of the new students into the university.

The Matriculated students comprises 4,171 students admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and 259 admitted through Direct Entry.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Kayode Adebowale, who delivered his Matriculation address virtually, congratulated the matriculating students on their admission.

“Today marks a significant milestone in the annals of our great institution and, more importantly, a pivotal chapter in the personal history of the young men and women seated before us,” he said.

“Your admission is a testament to your hard work, resilience, and intellectual capacity. I therefore congratulate you and your parents or guardians who must have contributed significantly to ensuring that your dreams blossomed into reality,” he added.

He also disclosed that a total of 46,916 candidates applied to the University of Ibadan as their first-choice institution through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Of this number, 45,991 applied through UTME while 925 applied through Direct Entry.

He further noted that 13,618 candidates sat for the university’s post-UTME screening after meeting the 200-point requirement, with 7,046 scoring 50 per cent and above.

However, “only 4,171 candidates were admitted through UTME and 259 through Direct Entry, representing 9.4 per cent of the total number of applicants,” Professor Adebowale added.
