The University of Ibadan Students’ Union ‘Team Diligent’ has expressed support for the ongoing industrial action by the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), which commenced on May 1, 2026.
In a statement released on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the Union described the unions’ struggle as one that concerns the entire university community.
“The UISU stands in firm solidarity with SSANU and NASU. The Union supports their struggle for fair treatment and institutional justice, maintaining the principle that ‘an injury to one is an injury to all,’” the union wrote.
The Union also highlighted the impact of the ongoing strike on students, noting that the disruption has significantly affected campus life.
According to the statement, the mid-semester strike has led to irregular electricity and water supply, shutdown of essential services, including the University Health Centre (Jaja Clinic) and restricted movement and increasing difficulty in daily campus living.

Despite its support for the industrial action, the Union stressed that students should not bear the brunt of the situation.
It, therefore, called on the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to engage in urgent, sincere, and constructive dialogue with the striking unions to resolve outstanding issues and restore normalcy to the university.
Recall that students, particularly from Independence and Nnamdi Azikiwe Halls of Residence, have recently decried the worsening situation in the early hours of today, especially the persistent electricity outages linked to the absence of maintenance personnel due to the strike.
